1. Gather Your Equipment
- You’ll need a set of small, round discs (the “winks”) for each player or team.
- Each participant gets a flicking tool called a “squidger.”
- A small container, known as the “pot,” is required to score points.
2. Set Up the Playing Area
- Find a flat, smooth surface where the game can be played.
- Place the pot in the center of the area.
- Arrange any additional markings or boundaries if desired to define the playing field.
3. Organize Teams and Determine Play Order
- Divide the players into teams (or play individually), assigning each a unique color of winks.
- Decide the order of play; players will take turns flicking their winks.
4. Learn the Basic Techniques
- Flicking: Use the squidger to strike your winks, aiming to either flick them into the pot or to knock opponents’ winks away.
- Defensive Moves: Besides potting your own winks, you can use your turn to disturb an opponent’s wink that is already in the pot or in a favorable position.
- Practice your flicking technique to get a feel for the force and angle needed for accurate shots.
5. Play the Game
- On your turn, position your squidger behind your line of winks and take aim.
- Flick your wink, trying to send it into the pot. Alternatively, if a strategic opportunity arises, target an opponent’s wink to disrupt their score.
- Continue taking turns, with each player attempting both to pot their own winks and interfere with the opponents’ placements.
6. Scoring and Winning
- Points are awarded based on how many of your winks end up inside the pot when play concludes.
- Some variations of the game award additional points for specific shots or for knocking opponents’ winks away.
- The game typically ends when all players have had a chance to flick all their winks, and the team or player with the highest score is declared the winner.
7. Practice and Variations
- As you become more comfortable with the basic rules, try different strategies or rule variations to keep the game exciting.
- Experiment with different shooting techniques and defensive maneuvers to develop your personal style of play.
