Imaginative Play

Imaginative play is what we see when children are role-playing. They act out situations or experiences they have seen, often something that is part of their day's activities. They understand their world through pretending.

Children pretend to nurture they way they see and feel nurturing. Children pretend society's roles like cooks, construction workers, train engineers, pilots, shopowners, firefighters, doctors, nurses, law enforcement, and so forth. They experiment with decision making and behavior.

Einstein told us that imagination could take us everywhere. The ability of adults to imagine and dream is rooted in early imaginative play.
