What is more joyful than watching a toddler rock out, body and soul?
Music stimulates nerve connections between brain cells that play an important role in cognitive development. Music and rhythm is a natural and important boost to a child's creativity.
When playing instruments, toddlers and preschoolers will use ears and eyes, large and small muscles. Children must practice eye-hand coordination. But more importantly, if your child learns an appreciation for music, you may see tremendous benefits:
Language and Music are interdependent. Research shows that growing up in a musically rich environment supports language development. Both music and language process in the same region of the brain. What's more, children with strong language ability have shown enhanced brain activity in the area that processes music.
Children are often flooded with different emotions and have difficulty articulating those feelings. Music and movement is a tool that helps release expression.
Numerous studies link enhanced spatial skills, math skills, and music education. Music involves ratios, patterns, and proportions as does math. Playing music, as opposed to simply listening to it, has long-lasting positive effects. One study found that six months of piano lessons at elementary school age improved a child's ability to do puzzles and other spatial tasks by nearly 30%.
Most importantly, music is in the human soul. Studies find people who enjoy music experience joy and have a higher happiness factor, on average.
